SPARROW project will strengthen cities in digital breakdown

We represent the city of Pilsen in the European research project SPARROW, which aims to increase the resilience of cities and society during power and internet outages. Together with our partners – Plan4All and RoadTwin – we want to participate in the development of an alternative emergency communication system for digital infrastructure failures.

Aims of the project:

  • To strengthen society’s readiness for digital disruption.
  • To develop an emergency communication system for the emergency services.

Results of the project:

  • Testing of the communication system in the laboratory environment and in the field.
  • Use of SIT drones, digital twin city, polygon for autonomous mobility or security dispatching.
  • Engaging the 16+ community through a hackathon.

In the SPARROW project, 15 partners from eight European countries collaborate, coordinated by the KIOS Centre of Excellence for Research and Innovation at the University of Cyprus.

It brings together academia, industry, SMEs, public organisations, and private experts from Austria, Bulgaria, Cyprus, France, Greece, Switzerland, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the Czech Republic.

The three-year project started with an official meeting of all stakeholders in September 2024 at the University of Cyprus. The project is scheduled to be completed in autumn 2027. The grant from the European Union funds amounts to just under 5 million CZK.
