Pilsen Being Part of the Záchranka (Rescue Services) Application

Aims of the project:

  • To improve the availability of information to the people of Pilsen in crisis situations with a direct impact on their lives and health.
  • Efficient distribution of information to prevent overuse of emergency lines.

Results of the project:

Pilsen has become part of the Záchranka (Emergency Services) application, which more than a million users have already downloaded to their smartphones and tablets. The application allows users to receive alerts about major events such as floods, fires, chemical emergencies and drinking water contamination without having to identify their location. The inbound push notification includes instructions for action and a link to the city or region’s crisis portal. In this way, people get the information they need immediately, and in most cases don’t have to contact the emergency services, which are often overloaded in crisis situations. Pilsen is the second city in the Czech Republic, after Prague, to use this functionality.

The app Záchranka is connected to the integrated rescue system. Its other features of the Záchranka include:

  • An SOS button which, if necessary, sends an emergency message to the control room (including exact location, mobile phone battery status, personal information including health status, contact details of a close person, etc.) and at the same time dials the 155 line.
  • First Aid information.
  • The largest database of automated external defibrillators in the Czech Republic.
  • List of emergency services and Mountain Rescue Service stations

The application is fully adapted for hearing and visually impaired people. In addition to the Czech Republic, it also works in Austria, Hungary and in neighbouring Slovakia’s mountains. The app can be downloaded for free, both to the Android and iOS operational systems.
